What to expect on Ukulhas
On Ukulhas, the beach sits beside a village of houses, cafés, shops and a working harbour, with the call to prayer part of daily life.
A little preparation helps you enjoy the beach and village together, from what to wear to paying for your stay.
Local customs to know
- No alcohol is served on Ukulhas, and that includes Nala Bistro.
- Swimwear belongs on the designated bikini beach; in the village, shoulders and knees are covered.
- Some businesses open at different times around prayer and on Fridays.
- Ask before you photograph people.
Everything is within a few minutes' walk, from the beach and harbour to the shops and both Nala properties, so most guests need no transport on the island.
The two stays
Nala Veli Beach & Spa is our 26-room boutique beachfront hotel, with Nala Bistro in front of it on the beachfront. Its three floors have no lift, so the team carries your luggage. Nala Veli Villa is a six-room guesthouse on a quieter residential street, less than two minutes from the beach, with every room on the ground floor.
Many Comfort and Deluxe rooms at the hotel look onto the internal corridor. Queen beds are standard, and the room pages explain each layout. At either property, check-in starts at 14:00, and you leave your room by 12:00 on the last day.
Construction near Beach & Spa
Near Nala Veli Beach & Spa, two new hotel buildings are going up. Work happens in the daytime, with no night work at present, and both are expected to finish by 2027, though that estimate may change. If the work affects your stay, tell us: where availability allows, we may move you to a quieter or other suitable room at no additional charge, case by case.
Paying, Wi-Fi and hours
You can pay in cash, in US dollars or euros, or with any major credit card. Paying by card at our terminal adds a 3.5% processing fee; paying through our online payment link does not.
Wi-Fi reaches up to 10 Mbps for downloads and 5 Mbps for uploads, though actual speeds can vary.
Nala Bistro opens daily from 07:00 to 21:30. Nala Spa opens daily from 11:00 to 21:00, with the last appointment at 20:00. All times are local to the Maldives. The Nala team can book your treatment.
Room outlooks and facilities
Neither property has a swimming pool, and no room at either has a view of the sea. The sea is under 30 seconds on foot from Beach & Spa and about a minute from the Villa.
Ukulhas has a health centre. If medical care bears on your travel plans, ask us what is currently available before you book.
